Nama BitDefender tentunya sudah tidak asing bagi kalangan pengguna komputer sebagai pengembang produk antivirus. Nah, baru-baru ini, BitDefender merilis tiga produk keamanan komputernya sebagai produk free edition yang gratis untuk digunakan. Ketiga produk tersebut adalah BitDefender Free Edition, BitDefender Anti-Phishing Free Edition, dan BitDefender Chat Encryption.

BitDefender Free Edition

BitDefender Free Edition dinyatakan sebagai produk antivirus yang menggunakan engine yang sama dengan produk-produk BitDefender lainnya untuk menghalau virus, spyware, dan malware lainnya dari komputer. Limitasi dari BitDefender Free Edition ini adalah penggunaannya terbatas sebagai on-demand virus scanner, tanpa fitur proteksi real-time-nya. Dengan keterbatasan ini, proses scanning memori-file-file, dan boot sector hanya dilakukan ketika Anda memerintahkannya. Namun begitu, ketika removable device seperti USB flashdisk dimasukkan, BitDefender Free Edition akan tetap mendeteksinya dan menanyakan kepada Anda apakah akan dilakukan scanning atau tidak. BitDefender Free Edition juga masih dilengkapi fasilitas scheduled scanning yang memungkinkan Anda melakukan penjadwalan waktu scanning.
